Cabras Hill, Andes Cordillera de los Andes

We head West, through Nº 7 national road, along the Pre Mountain Range of the Andes. The road winds up between this Chain and the Frontal Range. Up, through the valley of Potrerillos, into the mountains to the small oasis of El Salto.
Through the ridge of Cabras Hill, the quick hike up shows us the magnificence of the El Salto valley where the village with the same name lies. Poplar trees, weeping willows and many other kinds of trees indicate the fertility of the land. To the west the high snowy peaks of Cordón del Plata rise up to almost 20.000 ft. (6.100 m) above sea level.
Once at the summit of Cabras Hill, with a 360º view over the Andes, we stop and enjoy a rest and the well-deserved picnic.
The way down follows a ridge towards the Mendoza River. The first part is steep and has a bit of scree, but the trekking poles will be a good partner. After enjoying the clear surrounding views we descend towards a wet ravine along which we shall trek through on the way out and then be picked up to go back to Mendoza.
